As a teenager she moved from the city of her birth to Los Angeles to pursue her acting profession. Handler was a professional actress to support her. However, when she was just 21 years old, Handler decided to pursue stand-up comedy full time, because she realized her story telling abilities. Handler's career began as part of the all-female Oxygen television show in the comedy show with hidden cameras Girls Behaving Unreasonably. The show aired on air from 2002 until 2005. Handler was then featured on other TV shows such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler started working as a correspondent on The Tonight Show as a reporter. The biggest break for Handler came in 2006 after she started hosting her own program on E! Named The Chelsea Handler show. The show ran for a total of two seasons. In the following year, Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour in the United States.
